Every semester the English Department offers over sixty courses covering a broad range of topics in literature and literary theory, writing and composition theory, cultural studies, linguistics, and communication. Students who enroll in our major will choose one of two tracks:  LITERATURE or COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY.

Students who elect the Literature Track pursue courses in British and American literature, honing their skills in close reading and literary analysis, critical thinking and writing. Students who elect the Communication and Technology Track pursue courses in the literature of technology and language use, developing  their skills in the critical analysis and production of various sorts of print and electronic texts. Graduates of both tracks pursue careers in education, business, law, publishing, public relations, and computer-related fields.

The English Department also offers three minors that are useful to students majoring in any field. These are (1) The Minor in Literature, (2)The Basic Minor in Writing, and (3) The Extended Minor in Writing. Earning a literature or writing minor credential will help students in their undergraduate work as well as in graduate school and the workplace.
