Piotr Gwiazda is Associate Professor of English. He received his
bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his
doctorate from New York University. His teaching and research interests
include American literature and culture, modern and contemporary poetry,
poetic theory and translation, and creative writing.
Dr Gwiazda is the author of James Merrill and W.H. Auden: Homosexuality and Poetic Influence (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007). His articles and reviews have appeared in American Literature, Chicago Review, Contemporary Literature, Journal of Modern Literature, PN Review, Postmodern Culture, Times Literary Supplement, and other journals. His book of poems, Gagarin Street, was published in 2005.
Dr Gwiazda has received grants and fellowships from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the National Humanities Center (Summer Institute in Literary Studies), and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. In the fall of 2008 he will be Writer-in-Residence at the James Merrill House in Stonington, Connecticut.
