UMBC alum and "Ace of Cakes" star Duff Goldman spoke to an audience of
150 students and alumni at a networking reception on campus. Duff talked
about how his experiences at UMBC shaped his career and how he went
about starting his own company.
Julie Lenzer Kirk (serial entrepreneur, author, speaker and trainer)
delivered her "Boot in the Butt" camp to over 50 students. She helped
them determine if they had what it takes to become entrepreneurs, and
provided practical advice for getting started.
Sandy Hillman, PR consultant and former director of the Baltimore Office
of Promotion and Tourism, chats with some students following her
presentation on the revitalization of Baltimore's Inner Harbor in the
1970s and 1980s. The theme of Ms. Hillman's talk was social
entrepreneurship and how the innovative solutions developed by a small
group changed the city and served as a model for urban redevelopment in
other cities.
As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, UMBC held a "Techpreneur Fair"
at its technology business incubator. Students had a chance to see the
Incubator, meet with CEOs, and learn about internship and job
opportunities at the companies. Several alumni entrepreneurs whose
businesses are not at the Incubator also participated.
