ABOUT
Music in a new world:
America's ethnic traditions

IT'S PERFORMING ARTS. Twenty-six half hours of America's finest immigrant ethnic musicians, recorded on location. Crystal clear digital recordings: Juilliard graduate and internationally recognized ethnomusicologist Dr. Karl Signell has given the musicianship top priority—has combined know-how and care with the best professional equipment—has spent hours readjusting microphones and musicians for optimal balance—and has provided listeners a thrilling audio experience.

IT'S A DOCUMENT OF AMERICAN HISTORY. A tour of ethnic communities in America, presenting immigrant history against a sound backdrop of musical tradition. It takes listeners to Elko, Nevada, where descendants of Basque shepherds preserve their heritage. To Providence, Rhode Island, where the Hmong people have found a haven from their systematic extermination in Laos. To twenty-six communities across the nation for a document of American history in the music and words of its newest citizens.

FUNDERS. National Endowment for the Arts, the L. J. and Mary C. Skaggs Foundation, National Public Radio Performance Programs, and the Satellite Program Development Fund.
