Carlo DiClemente, Ph.D.
Chair
Department of Psychology


Carlo DiClemente joined the faculty at UMBC as a Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department in 1995 after a number of years in Houston, Texas as a Psychology Professor at the University of Houston, the University of Texas Medical School and a Research Scientist at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences. He is author or co-author of several books and has an active grant-funded program of research in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, University of Texas Health Sciences Center and University of Houston.

Carlo DiClemente completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Rhode Island in 1978.

Diane M. Lee, Ph.D.
Dean of Undergraduate Education and Vice Provost

Diane Lee is currently Dean and Vice Provost of undergraduate education in the Education Department. She has led multiple research efforts to study the educational experience at UMBC in order to preserve and improve the "honors university experience" at UMBC, as well as taught graduate courses in research methodology and served as co-chair for UMBC's Middle States Periodic Review.

Diane Lee earned her PhD at UMCP in Lifespan Human Development with a concentration in research and statistics and a certificate in Gerontology.

Dr. John S. Martello is the founder and Executive Director of The Shriver Center and the first Vice Provost for Community Partnerships at UMBC. He is an affiliate associate professor of psychology and has served as principal investigator on over $70 million in grants and contracts awarded by private foundations, state and federal agencies over the last 10 years. In 2003, he was elected President and CEO of UMBC Training Centers, LLC.

Dr. John S. Martello holds a BS in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, an MA in Community-Clinical Psychology from UMBC, and a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Howard University.


Nancy A. Miller, Ph.D., M.A.

Coordinator
Health Administration and Public Policy Track


Nancy Miller is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at UMBC and the Coordinator of the Program's Health Policy Track. She is also a core faculty member for the Intercampus Doctoral Program in Gerontology and coordinates the Program's Aging Policy Track. In 2004, she received the University System of Maryland Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring. Her research interests are focused on chronic disease, disability, and long term care, with particular concerns toward access to care. She has published a number of studies related to states' provision of community based care to individuals with disabilities.

NancyMiller received both her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy.


Charles J. Milligan, M.P.H, J.D.

Center for Health Program Development and Management


Charles Milligan is responsible for the Center for Health Program Development and Management delivery of services to its clients, which include the Maryland Medicaid program, several Maryland state and local governmental agencies, states' health care agencies and the federal government. He is also responsible for the Center's coordination with academic departments and related centers at the UMBC. Before joining the Center, he worked at The Lewin Group, providing consulting services concerning the Medicaid Program to states and clients.

Charles Milligan is a former state Medicaid and S-CHIP Director from the State of New Mexico. He holds an MPH from the University of California at Berkeley, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a BBA the University of Notre Dame.


Robert L. Rubinstein
Professor
Department of Sociology and Anthropology


Robert L. Rubinstein is a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and in the Doctoral Program in Gerontology at UMBC. He has conducted field research in Vanuatu and the U.S. His research interests include death and dying, long-term care and suffering in later life. He is author or co-author of the books Singular Paths: Old men living along, Elders living alone: Frailty and the perception of choice, and Old souls: Older Women, poverty and the experience of God, as well as editor of several volumes on later life.


Andrew Sears, Ph.D.

Andrew Sears is a Professor and Chair of the Information Systems Department at UMBC. His research projects have been supported by Aether Systems, IBM, Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, Motorola, Platinum Technologies, NASA, the United States Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation. He currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Universal Access in the Information Society, and the Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, as well as Conference Chair of the Association for Computing Machinery's Conference on Accessible Computing.


Alan Sorkin, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair
Department of Economics


Alan Sorkin has served as chair of the Economics Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County since 1974. During his tenure, he published 10 books and 13 articles on the principles of economics, health economics and labor economics. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine.

Alan Sorkin received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from The Johns Hopkins University.


Carolyn Tice, D.S.W.
Associate Dean and Program Chair
Social Work


Carolyn Tice was appointed Associate Dean and Program Chair in July of 2002. Previously, she served as chair of the Department of Social Work at Ohio University. As the author of three books, her research focus revolves around rural aspects of social work practice and the strengths perspective. She is a site visitor for the Council on Social Work Education and a member of the Program Committee for the Maryland Chapter of the National Association of Social Work. Carolyn Tice is also a book prospectus reviewer for Wadsworth Publishers.

Carolyn Tice received her BSW from West Virginia University, an MSW from Temple University and completed her DSW at the University of Pennsylvania.
