Mission
The Faculty
Development Center supports UMBC faculty in their teaching, research
and creative activity, and service. It promotes initiatives that
improve undergraduate and graduate education—initiatives that
value teaching as well as research and that help to link the two.
It also serves to enhance faculty members' lives during all phases
of their careers by connecting faculty with resources for innovation
and renewal.
The Faculty Development Center invites faculty
to make use of its services, all of which exist for formative
(or developmental) purposes and are confidential; faculty may
wish to use information about their work with the Center in summative
self-evaluations that support promotion and tenure. But the Center
does not provide evaluative information about faculty members
to campus committees or administrators making personnel decisions.
