Dr. Barry L. Casey, Interim Director of the Faculty Development Center, taught for 27 years in philosophy, communications, and religious studies at Columbia Union College (CUC), where he chaired the faculty development committee for eight years. At CUC, Casey presented faculty colloquia on such subjects as "Writing Across the Curriculum," "Communicating in the Classroom," and "Creative Teaching in Diversity." He has been a department and division chair, and has led in the assessment of institutional, departmental, general education and honors programs. He holds a masters and a doctorate in Philosophy of Religion from the School of Theology at Claremont and Claremont Graduate University as well as a Masters in Religion and Journalism from Andrews University. His interests include learning theory, media studies, creative nonfiction, existential philosophy, and the intersection of culture and religion. He is married to Cely Joy Daquila and has a son, Conor, and a stepdaughter, Eden.

Sue has worked at UMBC since 1973, and after working in several academic departments through the years, she moved to the Faculty Development Center in 2000 when the center was first organized.   She divides her time with UMBC’s Faculty Senate and works with and staffs many faculty and university committees.  Sue, along with daughter, Tricia, graduated from UMBC in 2006; both mother and daughter were granted a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.   Sue's husband, Jeff Hahn, was a member of the first class at UMBC in 1966 and graduated from University of Maryland's School of Pharmacy in 1971. The Hahns are big lacrosse enthusiasts, having cheered their two sons on UMBC's Men's Lacrosse team, following in the footsteps of their father, who played from 1966-71.
