Departmental Programs
The FDC collaborates with other departments on campus to provide orientation programs for new faculty, part-time faculty, and TAs, and co-sponsors a series called The Provost's Luncheons for New and Junior Faculty approximately six times a year on topics of recurrent interest. We organize frequent Brown Bag workshops for faculty on specific teaching topics and other areas of professional development. The Teachable Moment is a blog dedicated to issues of teaching and learning and a New Faculty Newsletter will be online soon.
Seminars, Lectures, and Reading Groups
The Faculty Development Center sponsors seminars, lectures, and reading groups on topics of interest to all faculty. Watch the "Upcoming Events" section on our home page for the latest announcements.
Teaching and Technology
The FDC works closely with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to help faculty members incorporate technology into their courses, including assisting faculty in creating online or hybrid course sites using the Blackboard course tool.
For more information go the Blackboard Help website , contact Deb Arnold (darnold@umbc.edu) or call the Faculty Development Center (5-3916). DoIT also sponsors Blackboard training workshops that can be found at http://www.umbc.edu/training.
