Merit Scholarships for
Incoming Transfer
Students
UMBC offers competitive merit scholarships for incoming community college
transfer students. The Academic Achievement Award for Transfers and
the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Award are awarded to community
college transfers on the basis of academic accomplishment.
Eligibility Criteria
For the Academic Achievement Award
- 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA (based on entire college academic
history, 3.7 or above to be most competitive)
- Completion of 35 or more credits at the time of application
For the Phi Theta Kappa Award
- 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA (based on entire college academic
history, 3.7 or above to be most competitive)
- Proof of PTK membership must be included with admission application
- Priority is given to students who have completed at least 30 credits
at the time of application
Award Amount/Terms
- $2,500 ($1,250 per semester) for two academic years
- May be used for full or part-time study (award is pro-rated for part-time)
- Must maintain a 3.25 GPA
Priority Deadlines
- March 15 for fall applicants
- November 1 for spring applicants
Honors College Award - transfer students admitted to
the Honors College may be eligible for an additional $1,000
per year Honors College scholarship for each of two years of
