UMBC offers a range of general merit scholarships to both in-state and out-of-state students. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $22,000. To qualify for general scholarship review, students must first be admitted to the University.
General merit scholarships do not require separate application. Prospective incoming freshmen will automatically be reviewed for these awards provided timely applications for admission are filed.
Deadline Dates for Scholarship Review
Incoming freshmen are advised to file early action admission applications (by November 1) for guaranteed scholarship consideration. The scholarship reviews will continue beyond the early action date if funding is still available.
Freshmen candidates are reviewed based on high school programs (9th through 11th grade), individual grades, cumulative averages, and SAT or ACT scores. Award consideration is based upon a numerical standard and the competition of the applicant pool.
In addition to general merit scholarships, UMBC offers seven Scholars Programs based on academic interest. A separate application is required for these programs.
