• 2004 - Present: Enroute Navigation Cartographer with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Duties include the compilation of various Instrument Flight Navigation charts as well as Air Traffic Controller charts, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean routing charts and various other special projects. Many of the charts are kept up using a program called Microstation while others come to us in ArcMap format.
“It is my job it interpret the data and decide what must be included on my charts. If any of the information does not appear correct, I must investigate and question the information. Typically I do this by crosschecking current charts or using COMPSYS, a program used to perform geodetic calculations. On a number of occasions, information has been added, removed or revised based on what a cartographer has questioned.
