Hello!
My name is Lindsey Wong, and I am the NOAA Internship Program Coordinator for the Environmental Careers Organization (ECO). ECO’s mission is to protect and enhance the environment through the development of diverse leaders, the promotion of careers, and the inspiration of individual action. ECO accomplishes this through internships, career advice, publications and research.
I am pleased to announce the open position of GIS Web Mapping and Data Acquisition Associate at NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) in Durham, NH.
Below is a brief description of the internship, and more details can be found on ECO’s website (www.eco.org) under Paid Internships. Your interest in Environmental Science and/or Computer Science has led me to contact you - if you know of anyone that may be interested in this program, we would really appreciate it if you could please pass on this information to them.
Summary:
NOAA’s National Ocean Services (NOS) needs an intern for at minimum of 1 year that will be directly involved with the further development and maintenance of NOS’ nowCOAST, a GIS-based web mapping portal (http://nowcoast.noaa.gov). The web mapping portal, built upon ESRI Arc Internet Map Server (ArcIMS) technology, provides on-map display of the latest surface meteorological and oceanographic observations, weather satellite imagery, and radar data. In addition, the portal provides geo-referenced links to real-time oceanographic, meteorological, and river observations and NOAA forecasts for U.S. coastal areas. The intern will be organizationally associated with the Marine Modeling and Analysis Programs branch of NOS’ Coast Survey Development Laboratory and located at the NOAA-University of New Hampshire Joint Hydrographic Center in Durham, New Hampshire.
The internship position is for at least one year and has a salary range from $36,000 - $38,000 depending on experience.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without an employer sponsored visa and have completed a degree, certificate course, or training program within the last three years of the position start date.
More information can be found on www.eco.org – under the Paid Internship section.
Please contact me with any questions.
Thanks,
Lindsey
