Overview and Achievements

UMBC reflects the future of research universities. UMBC is ranked as Doctoral/Research University (High Research Activity) by the Carnegie Foundation, one of the highest classifications for a research university in the country.

UMBC graduate students also have access to courses, practical experiences and research opportunities at other campuses in the University System of Maryland through the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore (UMGSB). Created in 1985, the UMGSB represents the combined graduate and research programs at UMBC and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) - the university system's doctoral research campuses in the Baltimore area.
