International Admissions
UMBC welcomes international students from over 150 countries. To apply to UMBC, international students will need to submit application documents as early as possible. Click here to review application deadlines by program.
Generally, international applicants must be degree-seeking. International students residing in the United States who hold a pertinent immigration status, meet the required language proficiency and possess appropriate academic preparation may be considered for non-degree status. Departmental and Graduate School approval is required.
International applicants are required to provide an official English language transcript and a native language transcript from each post-secondary institution attended. Each set of documents must list subjects studied, grades or marks received and rank in class or division.
See the Graduate School's admission criteria for information about TOEFL requirements. Admitted international students must receive the immigration form (I-20) from the UMBC International Education Services office. Contact IES for more information about immigration requirements.
The financial responsibility form has required information used for issuing your immigration documents. The International Education Services office will use information provided by you in the financial responsibility form to issue an I-20. Please complete the form and email it to ies@umbc.edu or fax to 410-455-1130.
