Making Your Transition to UMBC

Welcome to UMBC!
Much of the information you need is covered at the orientation for new graduate students. If you miss the orientation program, you are responsible for taking care of these matters yourself.

Spring Semester
Spring 2008 Orientation

Orientation programs are offered each January for incoming graduate students.

  1. Many departments/programs sponsor an orientation for new students, and these are usually held prior to the first week of classes.
  2. An evening orientation for all new incoming graduate students will be held on Wed. January 23, 2008 beginning at 4:30 PM in the 7th Floor of the A.O.K library.
  3. Throughout the year several workshops (Success Seminars) are offered to enhance academic and professional success.

Fall Semester
Fall 2008 Orientation

Orientation programs are offered each August for incoming graduate students:

  1. A mandatory orientation for international students with graduate assistantships is scheduled for Monday, August 11 through Friday, August 15.
  2. A one-day orientation for all new incoming graduate students will be on Tuesday, August 12.
  3. Many departments/programs sponsor an orientation for new students, and these will be held prior to the first week of classes, August 18-22.
  4. An evening orientation for all new graduate students who are unable to attend the August 12 event will be held on Wednesday evening August 20.
  5. A teaching assistants classroom training will be held on Monday August 25.
  6. An orientation for all new international students will be held on Tuesday, August 26 and is sponsored by the Office of International Education Services.
  7. Throughout the year several workshops (Success Seminars) are offered to enhance academic and professional success.
