Special Enrollment Programs
Inter-institutional Registration
If you are enrolled as a degree-seeking student at UMBC and wish to take classes at another University System of Maryland school, please take the following steps:
- Complete the Inter-Institutional Enrollment form.
- Obtain signatures from your advisor and Graduate Program Director.
- Bring the form and proof of registration to the Graduate School and have it signed by Graduate School Staff. Depending on which school you will be attending, you will receive specific instructions at that point for additional steps.
- Take the signed Inter-Institutional Enrollment form to the host campus, if required, to register for the actual course(s) you wish to take.
Undergraduates Taking Graduate Courses for Credit
If you are an undergraduate and wish to take graduate-level courses, you will need to:
- Be a senior (normally)
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA
- Have completed with a grade of B or better the prerequisite courses
- Be a major in the appropriate (or closely related) department offering the course
If you wish to receive undergraduate credit, please obtain permission from the course instructor.
If you wish to take courses for graduate credit, please check the Graduate School Catalog for additional steps. Complete the Request for Approval for Undergraduates to Take Courses for Graduate Credit form, and obtain the signatures of the course instructor, the Graduate Program Director, and the Department Chair, and submit it to the Graduate School for the final approval decision.
