Program Description The Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture is an interdisciplinary program of the study of language, culture and human interaction. This interdisciplinary program draws upon the departments of Africana Studies; American Studies; Education; English; History; Modern Languages, Linguistics and Intercultural Communication; Sociology and Anthropology; and the Gender and Women's Studies Program at UMBC. The goal of the program is to provide research and applications that will enable professionals to work with interdisciplinary issues in language, literacy and culture.
