Fall 2008 Graduation Requirements for Master's Degree Students

If you intend to complete your degree requirements during the Fall 2008 semester, please take the following steps. (For copies of forms, please click here.)

Degree Requirements for Master's Candidates Deadline Dates
For all Master's Candidates:
Before the close of general registration, register for at least one credit during the semester that you intend to graduate.
August 27
Within the first ten days of the semester: Bring the following items to Linda Thomas in the Graduate School.
  1. The completed Application for Diploma form
  2. The completed Fulfillment of Course Requirements form
September 11
Pay the cashier all outstanding university debts. One month before the graduation date:
November 17
Bring the completed Certification of Completion of Master's Degree Requirements to the Graduate School. December 2
For thesis-option candidates:
Check with your Graduate Program Director and the Graduate School Catalog for related information regarding: preparation of your thesis, examination committee, final examinations, and other requirements for the master's degree.

Bring to the Graduate School the completed Nomination of Members for the Final Master's Examination Committee form.

The Graduate School will notify the Chairman of the Committee and the Dean's selected representative of the approved/appointed committee by returning the above form showing Graduate School approval and appointment of the Dean's representative.
Two months prior to the final exam
After all committee members have read the thesis, the Chairperson and the Graduate Program Director sign the Certification of Completion of Master's Thesis form. Bring the completed form to the Graduate School. (The Graduate School will then send the Procedures for Examination of the Master's Thesis and the Report of the Examining Committee form to the Dean's representative of your committee.) Two weeks before the thesis defense.
The Representative for the Dean returns the completed Report of the Examining Committee form to the Graduate School. Within two working days after the oral defense
Last day to submit the signed approval sheet to the Graduate School and electronic thesis to UMI December 2
Last day to submit the Certification of Completion of Master's Degree Requirements form for non-thesis option Candidates December 2
If you plan to participate in the graduation ceremonies:
Order academic regalia from the Bookstore by the deadline date. Inform Linda Thomas that you plan to attend commencement.
October 1 – 3
$20 late fee assessment for academic regalia orders will apply. October 15
Pick up academic regalia from the Bookstore. December 6 – 8
Graduate School Commencement ceremony December 18
Diplomas are available January 20

Please note that if the deadline dates are not met, you will have to reapply during the semester in which you plan to graduate. (There is a renewal fee of $5.00 if you wish to renew your application for a diploma.) Please be sure to verify all deadline dates with either the program office or Graduate School.
