** The Governor’s Summer Internship Program introduces college students to the unique challenges and rewards of working within MD State Government. For 10 weeks (June 2 – August 8, 2008), interns
• Work in state government agencies on substantive tasks, including drafting speeches and correspondence, tracking legislation, attending hearings, assisting with constituent case work, and researching policy options.
• Participate in seminars with top Maryland officials and make site visits to State facilities.
• Develop policy papers on a significant issue facing Maryland (e.g. the Chesapeake Bay, crime, care for the elderly) and present their findings in person to the Governor.
*Qualifications:* Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year during the Fall 2008 semester, with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. /All majors are strongly encouraged to apply./
*Compensation:* Interns receive a $3000 stipend.

Maryland** Nonprofit Leadership Program*

The Maryland Nonprofit Leadership Program offers paid summer internship opportunities in the nonprofit sector to college juniors, seniors, and graduate students attending Maryland institutions. Participating interns work for ten weeks full-time from June 2nd to August 8th while participating in bi-weekly seminars in nonprofit management. Each participating student receives a $3,000 scholarship.
College and university undergraduate and graduate students from various majors are provided with an opportunity to build valuable skills, gain experience in managing and leading public service organizations, and explore career choices within this sector. In doing so, the Public Service Summer Internship Program makes an important contribution to the development of the state’s current and future workforce and citizenry.
*__Qualifications:* Eligible applicants must be graduate or undergraduate with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. In addition, all undergraduate applicants must be entering their junior or senior year during the Fall 2008 semester. All majors are strongly encouraged to apply.
*Compensation:* Interns receive a $3000 stipend.

The MMMF annually awards educational grants to women from developing countries whose studies and future plans aim to benefit women and children in their respective regions. Their past achievements and volunteer efforts demonstrate their commitment. This year's nine MMMF recipients are enrolled in U.S. universities in graduate studies ranging from social work to agronomy, from early childhood education to nursing, from women's & gender studies to political science.
