Opportunities for Students Outside the ClassroomInternshipsStudents have the opportunity to enhance their classroom experience by participating in internships in such organizations as the Maryland Historical Society and the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and other museums, Archives, and historical societies in the region. One agency wrote to "thank UMBC's History Department for the wonderful employees and interns you have been sending us....To say we are satisfied with the quality of the people would be an understatement." Undergraduate and graduate students may earn academic credit for history-focused internships through HIST 391. Internship credits are supervised by Fulltime Faculty Advisors. For further information about internship opportunities, contact the Department of History. In addition to winning prestigious national fellowships and prizes, UMBC historians have served as scholars-in-residence at the National Security Agency and the National Foreign Affairs Training Center of the U.S. Department of State and have worked with state and county officials in designing history curricula in the public schools.
