Mission

Welcome to the Honors College! The Honors College at UMBC offers talented students an intensive approach to learning within the broader university. Through small classes and interaction with faculty members, Honors College students are able to develop their potential as writers, thinkers, researchers and active members of the UMBC community. Whether their interests lie in the sciences, the humanities, the social sciences or the visual or performing arts, members of The Honors College apply their intellectual curiosity across disciplines and beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Honors College students work closely with one another and with the exceptional faculty who teach Honors courses. In this way, they come to understand the deeper promise of the university experience, captured in our motto—discere ad vivendum, learning for living.
