|POSITION TITLE:||Academic Advisor|
|PERSONNEL STATUS:||Exempt, Full-time, Regular|
|RESPONSIBILITIES:||The incumbent will assist the director and associate director with advising, admissions, recruitment, orientation, retention, record-keeping and monitoring of the Honors College student body. The academic advisor will advise Honors College students during fall and spring preregistration (October-November in fall; March-April in spring), and will be available for walk-in advisement of prospective and current students throughout the academic year, before graduation, and during summer Orientation events. Honors College advising involves conventional advising (class choices, progress towards the degree, fulfillment of requirements), but also about the sorts of issues that especially concern Honors College students, such as: maintaining academic excellence despite multiple commitments; finding and choosing between research, internship and service opportunities; academic self-curation; graduate and professional degree planning; prestigious scholarships application preparation. The advisor will review and make decisions on applications to the Honors College and provide advice and counsel to the director and associate director on admissions policies and criteria. The advisor will be expected to contribute to strategic planning and curriculum development in the Honors College, to serve on the Honors College Advisory Board, and to be involved in co-curricular event planning.|
|MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:||Education/Experience: Requires a Masterís degree and three (five preferred) years of experience in higher education (advising, counseling, teaching, admissions). Familiarity with Honors education and the needs of academically talented college students highly desirable. Strong verbal & written communication skills required. Experience with all MS Office programs required. Must have the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and have strong management and organizational skills. Experience with some student administration/registration software desirable (will be trained on UMBCís SA software).
Note: Position requires a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
