|POSITION TITLE:||Assistant Director|
|PERSONNEL STATUS:||Exempt, Full-time, Grant Funded|
|RESPONSIBILITIES:||The incumbent will help coordinate the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (U-STAR) Program at UMBC, which follows the successful Meyerhoff Scholars Program model to support undergraduates preparing for PhD studies and research careers in Biomedical Sciences and who demonstrate an interest in the advancement of groups identified as underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The duties of this multi-dimensional position include, but are not limited to, recruiting participants, leading orientation, coordinating MARC retention activities, student advising, regular monitoring of academic and research progress, promoting campus resources and family involvement, preparing students for graduate school, coordinating student financial support and housing needs, expense tracking, grant reporting, and other duties as assigned. The incumbent will work collaboratively with UMBC faculty, staff, and students. The MARC Assistant Director also serves as liaison to the Meyerhoff Scholars Program.
Note: This is a grant-funded position wherein employment is contingent
upon the renewal of the grant.
|MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:||Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelorís degree, preferably in the sciences, and experience in program administration and higher education. Must have established writing and interpersonal skills and proficiency with computers, particularly word processing, spreadsheet, and data management. Experience with the administration of grant-funded programs is desired.
Note: The position will require some evening and weekend work as well as overnight travel on occasion.
Position will require a background check.
