RESPONSIBILITIES:The Director is responsible for leading DoITís strategy for end-user support of instructional technologies at UMBC (www.umbc.edu/doit/itnm). This includes online, hybrid and some face-to-face technogies (e.g., clickers, scantron testing). The Director reports to and will work closely with the Asst. VP for instructional technology who is responsible for assuring strategic effectiveness. A primary but not exclusive focus of the Director will be support of full-time faculty and working closing with the Faculty Development Center on referrals, joint workshops and technical support of the Hrabowski Teaching Innovation Fund. The Director will also lead a team consisting of an Assistant Director and three IT support specialists. Beyond assuring quality of support, the Director will collaborate with the Faculty Development Center (FDC) and Division of Professional Studies (DPS) to support hybrid/blended learning. This includes two workshops a year, individual faculty consults and support of UMBCís Quality Matters and Sloan-C online training institutional memberships. The Director also works collegially with the New Media Studio, Technology Support Center (TSC), AV Services, and the Provostís Classroom Committee. Ultimately, a key goal of the position is to help support effective integration of pedagogy and technology. Through workshops, brown bags, newsletters, FAQs, learning analytics and other initiatives, the Director helps identify, support, promote and assess effective instructional technology practices and practitioners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a Master's Degree (Ph.D. preferred) and five (5) years of experience leading or supporting faculty in the effective use of instructional technologies (full-time, college-level teaching experience is highly desirable and may be considered in lieu of direct IT support). Must have: a proven ability to set and achieve personal and organizational goals; strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills and good judgment; excellent interpersonal, project management and written & verbal skills; well-developed customer service skills, history of effective faculty relationships; strong analytical and technical skills; and the willingness to explore and master emerging technologies for pedagogical benefits.
SALARY:Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
