|RESPONSIBILITIES:||The UMBC Meyerhoff Scholars Program is at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and related fields. Created in 1988, the program supports a diverse group of high-achieving undergraduate students who have an interest in pursuing a PhD or combined MD/PhD in STEM and an interest in the advancement of minorities in the sciences and related fields. The Meyerhoff Program boasts an enrollment of nearly 300 undergraduate students and an annual retention rate of above 90%. To date over 800 students have graduated from the program.
The incumbent will coordinate the retention, undergraduate research, and graduate placement initiatives for junior and senior UMBC Meyerhoff Scholars. Specific duties include: academic and career advising; monitoring the academic and research progress of students; mentoring students through summer internship application process; coordinating a monthly seminar series for juniors and another for seniors, both related to the graduate school application process; coaching students through the graduate school application process; grant writing; assisting with program-wide initiatives; and working collaboratively with a broad spectrum of internal and external campus partners to support student retention and success; and other duties as assigned. Position requires some evening and weekend work and overnight travel on occasion.
|MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:||Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelorís Degree, Masterís Degree preferred, and at least two years of related experience, preferably in higher education. Must have strong written and verbal communication and excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proficiency with computers, particularly word processing and data management programs strongly desired. Experience in advising or counseling, and in event planning and management preferred.|
