RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Director of Benefits/Compensation/HRIS, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and processes associated with the HR Benefits and Leave Programs. Specific duties include: reviewing and processing benefit requests to facilitate employee enrollment in, and eligibility for, the various benefit plans to include health and supplemental benefits, tuition remission, and leave plans offered to faculty and staff; conducting new employee orientation and retirement counseling sessions for faculty and staff; coordinating annual open enrollment benefit activities and conducting related information sessions; compiling, analyzing and evaluating HR-related information on various leave requests and recommending action based upon established rules, regulations, guidelines and precedents related to employee eligibility for employee assistance programs (EAP), accident leave, FMLA, advanced/extended sick leave, parental leave, etc.; supervising work activities of HR Benefits Specialist; providing advice and guidance to faculty and staff regarding HR benefits related matters; compiling, analyzing and evaluating HR related information in response to various benefit survey requests; remaining abreast of federal, state and USM policies governing benefit programs for employees; and performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelorís degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or a related area, and at least three (five preferred) years of related work experience, two of which must have included supervisory responsibility. Benefit experience in higher education or the public sector strongly preferred. Must have: excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication and analytical skills; ability to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and application of HR laws, regulations, policies and guidelines as it relates employee benefit programs; strong computer skills; and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
SALARY:Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education.
