RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Director of Instructional Technology, the Assistant Director (AD) is responsible for operational, end-user support of instructional technologies at UMBC (www.umbc.edu/doit/itnm). This includes the Blackboard learning management system, web-based conferencing, screencasting, student response systems (or “clickers”), hybrid learning, Scantron test scoring and maintenance of instructional technology articles in the campus knowledgebase (www.umbc.edu/faq). A primary but not exclusive focus will be support of part-time and adjunct instructors. The Assistant Director will also supervise two IT specialists. Beyond leading day-to-day operational support, the AD collaborates with the Technology Support Center, AV Services, and campus scheduling coordinators to provide effective support DoIT’s instructional technologies. Through workshops, brown bags, newsletters, FAQs and other outreach activities, the AD helps identify, support, promote and assess effective instructional technology practices and practitioners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor's Degree (Master’s preferred) and three (3) years of experience leading or supporting faculty in the effective use of instructional technologies (full-time, college-level teaching experience is highly desirable). Must have: proven ability to set and achieve personal and organizational goals; strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills and sound judgment; excellent interpersonal, project management and written and verbal communication skills; well-developed customer service skills; history of effective faculty relationships; strong analytical and technical skills; and willingness to explore and master emerging technologies for pedagogical benefits.
SALARY:Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
