PI responsibilities
Principal Investigators have the responsibility to assess risks, understand and comply with institutional requirements and federal, state and local regulations, and train personnel that will minimize or eliminate risks associated with research involving biohazardous materials.
All research activities should receive proper review before commencing. One way to begin documenting this process is to complete the Assurance of Use of Hazardous Procedures form. This form, when submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs for review and sign-off during the research application process, is used to alert the various entities on campus about potential biosafety or hazardous materials use issues.
