Billing

UMBC's AWAY registration system is important for another reason.  It tells the UMBC Bursar's Office  what you should be billed for the period you are studying abroad.   It will also determine how any applicable scholarships and financial aid will be refunded to you.

  • AWAY 095/096: Students enrolled in this section will receive a tuition and fee bill of $0.00.  Any loan amounts due to you will  be refunded to you by UMBC.  You then use these funds to pay your program provider or international institution.
  • AWAY 098:  Students enrolled in this section will be billed for their regular tuition and fees (in-state or out-of-state rates apply) for the semester or academic year they are gone.  Any scholarships or financial aid left over after these charges are paid will then be refunded to you by UMBC.
  • AWAY 099:  Students enrolled in this section will receive a tuition and fee bill of $0.00.  Any loan amounts due to you will  be refunded to you by UMBC.  You then use these funds to pay your program provider or international institution.

You alone are responsible for making certain that you follow UMBC procedures for assuring the transfer of your financial aid and scholarships to your program provider or international institution.  UMBC's Student Business Services Office cannot do so on your behalf.

You also are responsible for following your program provider's or international institution's billing policies.  Failure to do so can result in the cancellation of your registration at UMBC for subsequent semesters and the placement of a registration hold on your UMBC account.
