Takushoku University	Location: Tokyo, Japan Terms: Academic year only. Requirements: 2.75 GPA, at least four semesters of Japanese.
Notes: Takushoku University offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in perfecting their Japanese to spend a year in Tokyo. Students must have the approval of the UMBC Japanese instructor prior to application.

Council for International Educational Exchange	Locations: Sophia University, Tokyo Terms: Semester, academic year, summer Requirements: 3.0 GPA
Notes: Students enroll in intensive Japanese classes and regular Sophia University classes taught in English. Academic strengths include the social sciences, business and economics, and East Asian history.
Institute for the International Education of Students	Location: Nagoya and Tokyo Terms: Semester, academic year, summer Requirements: 3.0 GPA, 0 to 5 semesters of Japanese, depending upon the location chosen
Notes: Students with any level of Japanese may apply for IES programs in Japan. IES Tokyo offers a wide variety of Asian area studies courses in English.
University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC)	Locations: Hiroshima and Osaka Terms: Semester, academic year, summer Requirements: 3.0 GPA (Hiroshima University) or 2.5 GPA (Kwansei Gakuin University), 0 to 4 semesters of Japanese, depending upon the location chosen
Notes: Both programs offer a combination of intensive Japanese courses and cultural electives taught in either Japanese or English.
