University of Wales, Swansea Exchange Program

Spend a semester or academic year at the University of Wales, Swansea along the scenic south coast of Wales!  This UMBC tuition exchange gives majors in all academic disciplines the opportunity to explore one of Great Britain's most scenic regions while paying UMBC tuition and fees.

University of Wales, Swansea

The University of Wales, Swansea (UWS) is part of the federated University of Wales System. Founded in 1920, the university is located just west of downtown Swansea, and is a short walk from the Mumbles, a former fishing village now full of restaurants and pubs.  The UWS campus lies directly along a three-mile stretch of beach which offers unparalleled views of the Gower Peninsula and the Irish Sea.  UMBC students are directly enrolled in regular university classes with British and other international students, and may register for any classes for which they have appropriate academic preparation.

Swansea

Swansea lies along the south coast of Wales at the head of the Gower Peninsula, one of the most scenic areas of the coast.   From Swansea exchange students can explore the rolling hills of the Welsh countryside, take a three-hour train ride to London, or sail by ferry to Ireland.  It is the second city of Wales, and the national capital of Cardiff lies only an hour away by train or bus.  Contemporary Swansea has many restaurants, bars and clubs for its student population.

Accommodation

Program participants are guaranteed on-campus accommodation for their semester or year.  UMBC participants live in university apartments with single rooms with shared kitchen and living facilities with other Swansea students.  Students may also opt for single rooms in dormitory accommodation where breakfast is provided.   All housing costs are paid directly to UWS.

Admission

Applications for the Swansea exchange program are accepted either semester or the full academic year.  Students must have at least a 3.00 GPA and have at least second-semester sophomore standing at UMBC when they participate.  For more information and an application, contact the Study Abroad Office.
