Brian has led UMBC's Study Abroad Office since 2000. His first study abroad experience was in Finland as a high school exchange student. He returned for a second year at the University of Helsinki. He spent two summers on intensive Russian programs in Moscow, Russia and completed a year of research in Tallinn, Estonia at the Estonian Academy of Sciences. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and Slavic Languages and Literatures from Indiana University, and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois. He earned his Ph. D. in the Language, Literacy and Culture program at UMBC in May 2009.
In his spare time, he is an avid runner, currently training for three marathons in 2011 in Perth, Australia, San Francisco and Regina, Saskatchewan. He also is the Baltimore area run coach for Team in Training, the world's largest fund raising endurance event training program. When not at work, he doesn't let his passport and backpack get dusty. |

| Katherine joined the study abroad team in the Summer of 2008. During
her undergraduate career at Salisbury University, she spent several semesters studying and interning at the Centers for
Interamerican Studies (CEDEI) in Cuenca, Ecuador. After graduating with a
Bachelor's degree in Spanish and Art, she returned to CEDEI to work as an
International Programs Coordinator. Katherine
earned her master's degree in UMBC's intercultural
communications program in May 2011. Her passions include art, live music, and
traveling the world. |
