Council of Majors

The Council of Majors meets the second and fourth Monday of each month during free hour (12 noon until 1pm) in the INDS conference room, Fine Arts 529. All majors and any students interested in an interdisciplinary approach to education are invited to attend. The Council sponsors the annual Slobodan B. Petrovich Lecture, along with academic, social and fund-raising activities.

Major INDS Events

The Del Rey School service project is a Halloween celebration for children with cerebral palsy. The INDS Council of Majors hosted a "Halloween pumpkin decoration party" for UMBC students using pumpkins donated by the Towson Whole Foods Market, and delivered pumpkins to the Del Rey School for their annual Halloween celebration.

artREACH is an INDS sponsored fundraiser that features UMBC student musicians and artists who sell their artworks and donate proceeds to a local non-profit organization. In Fall 2011 the INDS Council of Majors raised $125 for Great Kids Farm. Below is a live performance at artREACH by "i am unanimous."

The Slobodan B. Petrovich Lecture: Since 1997 Interdisciplinary Studies at UMBC has hosted an annual lecture featuring a prominent individual from the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Representing fields including social sciences, medicine and the humanities, each lecturer has incorporated several academic disciplines in achieving professional success. The Petrovich lecturers illustrate the need for addressing complex issues by drawing upon a range of disciplinary perspectives to address contemporary problems.
