Miriam Tillman, OIA, in the Chronicle of Higher Education
A few institutions saw their men’s basketball team reach the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time, creating an opportunity for exposure of professionally produced, 30-second TV spots about the school. The Chronicle of Higher Education described UMBC television spots that first aired last fall. “We really wanted to convey a sense of place,” said Miriam Tillman, assistant vice president for marketing and creative services. Noting that the commercial had no narrator, she added, “We didn’t want to distract from the visual. The idea was to intrigue.” The article, “Some Upstarts in Tournament Are Unconventional Advertisers as Well,” ran on March 28 and is available to registered subscribers at http://chronicle.com/weekly/v54/i29/29a02001.htm.
