Men's Lacrosse Goalkeeper Blevins Named America East Player of the Week
Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins was named America East men’s lacrosse Player of the Week for games ending March 2. Blevins recorded a career high 20 saves in UMBC’s 9-6 win over 16th-ranked Denver. He had seven first quarter saves as UMBC jumped out to a 4-1 lead and made nine stops in the fourth as Denver outshot UMBC, 21-1 in the final period. His previous career high was 18 saves at Maryland in last season’s NCAA first round 13-9 victory over the Terrapins.
Colabella Nabs Second America East Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Award
UMBC freshman forward Meghan Colabella was named America East Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 2, the conference announced Monday. The award is the second of Colabella’s career.

Levendusky Tabbed America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week
Senior attack Ali Levendusky was named America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending March 2, the conference announced Monday. The award is the third of Levendusky’s career and the first for a Retriever this season.

Keith Puryear Named 2007 USPTA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year
Head Tennis Coach Keith Puryear has been named 2007 Mid-Atlantic College Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). Puryear will be honored on Saturday, March 8 at the 2008 USPTA Mid-Atlantic Convention at the McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

Dana Shepherd Selected as Candidate for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
UMBC senior shortstop Dana Shepherd (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) has been named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which honors the nation’s best softball seniors who also excel in the classroom and make an impact in their community.

Eleven UMBC Swimming and Diving Student-Athletes Named to America East All-Academic Teams
For the second straight year, 11 men and women have been selected to represent 2008 America East champion UMBC on the America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic teams, the conference announced Wednesday. The Retrievers boasted the most student-athletes named to the teams in 2007, with six men and five women selected, and have repeated that feat in 2008 once again with six men and five women honored.
