Marie (Mauri) Collins has a strong background in faculty development and support, and is currently serving as an Instructional Designer and online faculty development specialist in the Office of Distance Education (ODE) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In this capacity Collins works with new faculty designing new courses and preparing to teach online, using WebCT Vista 4. She also co-teaches "Teaching and Learning in Virtual Worlds" for the Department of Educational Technology, Boise State University.
She earned her D.Ed. from the Pennsylvania State University with a major in Adult Education, a minor in Instructional Systems, and a certificate in the Study of Distance Education, studying with Dr. Michael Moore. The title of her dissertation is "Invisible adult educators: Online public discussion group moderators' perceptions of their roles, task and responsibilities." She also earned a BA (1987) and an MA (1992) in Sociology, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Collins has presented more than forty papers at national and international conferences; three international keynote speeches, and two keynotes at online conferences. With Dr. Zane L. Berge, University of Maryland, Baltimore, she edited Computer-Mediated Communication and The Online Classroom (three volumes, 1995), and "Wired Together: The Online Classroom in K-12" (four volumes, 1998).
