Jane comes to the LLC program with a Master’s Degree in Instructional Systems Development from UMBC. She received an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth).
For the past 26 years Jane has worked for the AFL-CIO in Washington D.C. She is currently a Legislative and Policy Specialist for the federation where she works with members of Congress and the Administration on legislative issues of concern to workers and their families. Her work involves policy analysis and legislative representation on worker training, unemployment, public assistance, worker education and related legislation. Additionally she analyzes the federal budget and appropriations for these issues.
Jane’s professional life has been devoted to helping the AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions shape national workforce development and adult education policy, and further union involvement in worker education and training programs. She served as senior administrator at the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute, assisting unions in negotiating and implementing education and training programs for incumbent and laid-off workers.
In the LLC program Jane plans to examine the nature, extent and impact of union-involved education and training programs and the key elements of worker-centered learning. She has a special interest in apprenticeship programs and programs for low wage workers.
Jane is also a wife and mother of two sons, both college students, and serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Wider Opportunities for Women, a national organization devoted to helping women and girls achieve economic independence and equality.
