John Rollins received a B.A. degree in English and an M.A. degree in Instructional Systems Design with a focus on Teaching English as a Second Language from UMBC. As a student at UMBC, he distinguished himself as a writing tutor working for Mary Hickernell in the Writing Center and as the Graduate Student Association Writing Advisor working with graduate students on their theses and dissertations. One could say John is a true product of the UMBC system.

After graduating, he taught English as a Second Language at Howard Community College , Anne Arundel Community College , and the English Language Center here at UMBC. John has come home to UMBC as the Coordinator for Foreign Languages and the Freshman Year Intervention Program. He is responsible for training language tutors, testing and training International Teaching Assistants, and coordinating interventions for freshman in jeopardy of failing.
