Nicholas Heroux

My name is Nicholas Heroux and I am a junior Biopsychology major with the hopes of pursuing graduate study in Behavioral Neuroscience, specifically focusing on Animal Behavior and Learning. I have strong research interests in animal behavior mostly gained through working in a space radiation behavior lab at UMBC, and being a research technician at Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute's (BSi) behavioral core. When not in dark windowless labs, I enjoy reading a good book or playing video games.
I took Chemistry 123/124 during a summer semester at UMBC and found myself really interested in the classes. I was previously a pre-calculus SI leader - I have always been fond of education and tutoring. I have been a psychology tutor for about a year and a half now and am getting certified as a master-level CLRA certified tutor. I joined the SI team because I find it an extremely effective and innovate way to approach classes and the learning environment. I think it provides a fresh perspective - instead of repeating information, it helps students grow to be better students. I find it provides excellent opportunities for students and SI leaders to grow through nurturing strong study habits, learning and retention techniques, and overall a great boost in confidence for everyone involved.
