| The
Freshman Year Intervention (FYI) Program is part of a campus-wide
retention program designed to help new freshmen whose performance
by mid-semester indicates that they need some additional academic
support, if they are to succeed in their collegiate goals. |
| The
FYI Program is coordinated by the Learning Resources Center (LRC).
This program does the following: |
- Identifies new freshmen who at mid-semester are in academic difficulty.
That is, they are in danger of receiving one or more grades
below a C.
- Notifies these freshmen of their poor performance by mail.
Their letter lists the campus support services available to them
and recommends
that they take advantage of these services.
- Notifies selected student support programs, such as
Academic Advisement, Student Support Services,
and
Residential Life, that these new freshmen need their assistance.
|
| Freshmen, who received an FYI Letter, say that because of the letter
they:
|
- realized
that they had to change their study habits if they wanted to pass
the class.
- asked
for help from their professor, TA, and other students in their class.
- attended
tutoring sessions.
