About Us

The mission of MAS is to (1) advise, assist and educate the campus by evaluating policies and procedures, business practices and internal controls resulting in more informed managerial decisions and efficient operations; and (2) monitor, coordinate and guide the campus through the various internal and external audit processes.

RESPONSIBILITY
MAS is responsible for monitoring and coordinating responses to, and following up on all internal and external audits, with the exception of the annual financial statement audit and audit required by the Federal Office of Management and Budget, Circular A-133.  Those audit requirements are controlled by the Department of Financial Services.

CREDENTIALS

Management Advisory Services has a staff of two professionals with experience in government, public and corporate accounting and auditing.  We have professional designations and licenses.  To maintain our professional certifications and to remain current on internal control and business practices, we attend programs that provide us with information on the most recent developments and issues.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
MAS is a department within the division of the Administration and Finance.  We are directly responsible to the Associate Vice President for Administrative Services.  Through the Management Advisory Oversight Committee, we provide monthly updates on compliance issues to the President's Council.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
We can evaluate your current processes and provide you with suggestions that will minimize audit finding in your area, save you time and money, and/or help prevent misuse of funds.  Some of the areas we evaluate are compliance with current policies and procedures, the adequacy of current internal control systems, and efficiency of business practices.  You will obtain the most current internal control and business management information, leading to more informed operating decisions and efficient operations.

You can request our advice when you are planning projects.  We can provide consultation that could ensure that your project operates within university policies and procedures.

We work with other departments and internal and external auditors on various issues.  We have probably helped other departments to work through situations similar to yours and know ways of approaching your problem.

In all instances, whenever an auditor is working in your department, please contact MAS.

We welcome your comments and suggestions.  Please call or e-mail us with any questions or concerns you have regarding University policies and procedures or internal control issues.  Also, look for the quarterly MAS newsletter, where similar issues will be highlighted.
