Internships with Retirement Living TV

RLTV's new UMBC studio connects students like Cathryna Brown (left) with TV professionals like Sophia Manos.

Retirement Living TV, a national cable network, is basing its broadcast operations on the UMBC campus. As part of this unique partnership, internships are available to students in a number of areas both on and off-campus. Students can work in production, engineering, marketing and other aspects of RLTV's operation.

Internships may be taken during the regular semester or summer session. Students are required to work 120 hours and submit a written log summarizing their weekly activities.   The internships are unpaid.   The number of positions available are limited and the placements may vary from semester to semester. If you are interested in applying or want additional information contact:

What students are saying about the RLTV experience ...

"The internship program sponsored by RLTV has both strengthened and expanded my interests in television. The opportunity to work hands on with dirctors, producers, and technical engineers enables me to not only put the knowledge I've obtained in the classroom into practice, but also provides me with a unique ability to learn that extends far beyond what the classroom can offer. Furthermore, the opportunity to be a part of a community of people dedicated to bettering the lives of retirees and senior citizens places me at the forefront of programming that is both new and exciting."

Cathryna Brown, Communications & Media Studies Certificate, 2007

"Interning with the marketing department for RLTV has allowed me to gain practical experience that is otherwise absent form the traditional classroom. The flexibility and multidimensional component of working with a professional cable network station has enabled me to experience various career paths before I commit to full-time employment in a particular field. For instance, I was originally interested in marketing, but after connecting with some wonderful UMBC professors and mentors at RLTV, I realized that I am passionate about event management. I encourage anyone interested in business, filmmaking, production etc. to strongly consider an internship with this young and developing organization."

Daniel Hall, M.A. Intercultural Communications, 2007
