About MIPAR

The Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (MIPAR) is the principal center for social science and public policy research at UMBC. MIPAR links the analytical resources of the University with policymakers in the state and region, conducting opinior research, policy analyses, and program evaluations on a variety of topics. MIPAR activites are supported by federal, state, and local governmental agencies, foundations, and corporations.

Obesity Among Young Latino Children: Disparities and Changes Over Time
This Research Brief summarizes the results of a pilot project that studied factors and behaviors that may affect weight, nutrition and physical activity among Latino youth. The study, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for Salud America!, found that Latino children are at a greater risk for weight problems when compared with white children.
