Our Mission

MIPAR’s mission is to bring the analytic capability of University scholars to bear upon the pressing policy concerns facing decision makers in the public sector.  MIPAR provides support that enables social science faculty and students to conduct policy-relevant research. MIPAR also encourages interdisciplinary interaction among UMBC faculty, and faculty from other institutions. MIPAR goals are:

Serve as the principal center for scholarly research in the social sciences and related disciplines on issues of public policy at UMBC.
Provide a formal mechanism for linking the analytical resources of UMBC with public policy makers in the state, region, and nation.
Cooperate with faculty, staff, students and academic departments in the development of proposals for external funding, support policy-related research, and provide post-grant management assistance for proposals that have been funded.
Offer opportunities for graduate students to engage in policy-related research.
