he Espaces series, sponsored by the French area of MLL, offers UMBC French students and the community as a whole a chance to deepen their understanding of the French language, of cultural dynamics, and of world affairs. It aims to open up the curriculum in three directions:
- by exploring regions of the world where French plays a significant role but which are not always present in French curricula.
- by investigating the overall cultural and political face of a region, including cultural, social, and political activity in languages other than French.
- by connecting UMBC's French program with a larger audience, since the series includes a large number of events that are open to the public.
Espaces typically incorporates courses, lectures by distinguished visiting speakers, concerts, debates, and films.
