Along with its own holdings, users of the Kuhn library have access, through Victor, to the holdings of the thirteen libraries of the University System of Maryland. The library also provides interlibrary loan services for books and journal articles and it offers access to many online resources and CD-ROM databases.
International Media Center
The UMBC International Media Center houses important cultural materials in foreign languages and receives satellite transmissions from abroad, as well as two internationally known programs produced in the modern languages and linguistics department at UMBC: France TV Magazine and Spanish TV Magazine. An extensive film and videotape library, along with individual monitors, afford students the opportunity of watching foreign films and documentaries. Multistandard video machines and transfer facilities are available for PAL and NTSC videos. Computer-assisted learning materials such as Tell Me More (speech recognition), various Language Now programs from Transparent Language, word processing with the international keyboard and spell and grammar check in various languages are available. Students have access to computer laboratories for use in doing research and writing academic papers and for connection to Internet resources.
