This summer, the Martha Ross Center and the UMBC Center for History Education collaborated to showcase student oral history projects and to demonstrate for Maryland teachers how to incorporate oral history into their classrooms. Teachers were invited to have Dr. Lanman visit their classrooms and work together to create oral history projects for every grade level.
This summer, in conjunction with the Martha Ross Center, two students from Ridgely Middle School in Baltimore County presented their oral history projects. Lead by their teacher, Joe DeFilippo, Jeff Kraft presented his project on the "Little Rock Nine" and Michelle Gaeng presented her project on "Vietnam Protestors in Baltimore." The students told the group that oral history taught them how to conduct independent research and how to see a project through to completion.
