Audition sign-up information for Fall 2015 coming soon.

Anyone interested in participating in UMBC Wind Ensemble, regardless of whether you have played for the group in previous years, must audition. Past participation in the ensemble does not guarantee you a spot in this year's group. You MUST sign up for an audition slot during the allotted time for your instrument (more info coming soon). The requirements for Winds & Brass are listed separately from Percussion; percussionists please scroll to the bottom of the page.

Fall 2015 Wind Ensemble Audition Requirements (Winds & Brass):

  1. Two scales of your choice that you feel best demonstrate your sound, range, and technique.
  2. 1-2 minute excerpt of your choice that best demonstrates your sound, range, technique, and overall musicianship. It can be from a solo work, an ensemble work, etude book, etc. I strongly recommend picking something you already know well and feel confident performing.
  3. REQUIRED EXCERPTS (ATTACHED) - All interested in participating in wind ensemble must prepare the excerpt(s) selected for your instrument. Each excerpt is from music that I hope to perform with the group this Fall. I've included some recordings for your reference below, which I strongly recommend you study carefully for tempo, style, etc.

Fall 2015 Wind Ensemble Audition Requirements (Percussion):

1. Two scales of your choice that you feel best demonstrate your sound, range, and technique on a mallet instrument of your choice.
2. REQUIRED EXCERPTS- All interested in participating in wind ensemble must prepare the selected excerpts for both mallets and snare drum. While it is understood that your expertise may lie more with some percussion instruments more than others, the faculty would like to get an idea of your overall skills. Each excerpt is from music that I hope to perform with the group this Fall. I've included some recordings for your reference below, which I strongly recommend you study carefully for tempo, style, etc.
