Ms. Laura Ruas
Affiliate Artist, Double-Bass
Education B. Mus. The Juilliard School Bio Laura Ruas is one of the regions most sought after double bassists. She is a member of the Baltimore Opera Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and Principal Bass of the Concert Artists of Baltimore. She has also played with National Philharmonic, and both National and Baltimore Symphonies. She holds the positions of Adjunct Instructor of Double Bass at University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Goucher College and Double Bass instructor at Baltimore School for the Arts. Laura is also the Lead String Instructor and Conductor for the Baltimore School for the Arts TWIGS program, which provides free music lessons and classes for Baltimore City children. In 2005 Laura was invited to join the Cabrillo Music Festival by Maestra Marin Alsop. She has had the privilege of working with such esteemed conductors as Michael Tilson Thomas, Neemi Jarvi, Leonard Bernstein, Christof Eschenbach, Zubin Mehta, Gunther Herbig and Robert Spano. Tours have included South America, France, China, Japan and Hong Kong. Bachelor and Master of Music degrees were earned from The Juilliard School where she studied with renowned bass pedagogue Homer Mensch. |
