Gina Beck has taught at UMBC since 1994. She earned her BA in music from University of Oregon and her Masters in Ethnomusicology, specializing in Indonesian music, at UMBC. Her thesis on Indonesian gender panerus was cited in the Jakarta Post and the American journal Balungan. She has studied and performed with Indonesian master musicians, including K.R.T. Wasitodiningrat, Minarno, Midiyanto, Suatmadi Seputradipua and Ngurah Supartha. She was invited to perform with the gamelan Harta Budaya during a series of performances at the Smithsonian Institution.
